Meet the Me

I hate introductions… BUT LET’S DO THIS.

I go by a number of aliases online, ECMSquared being one of the latest. Outside the warm, fuzzy womb of the Internet, however, my name is Ella, and at the time of writing this I’m just finishing off a master’s degree (I hope) before staggering out in the big wide world replete with the customary curse of student debt (I’m an ambivalent Cambridge reject; all the interviewers’ plush, relic-filled offices were rather intimidating and the canteen looked like Hogwarts). I also write stuff on a fairly regular basis, and sometimes people even pay me for it.

The majority of my nerdly credentials come from my passion for both video and tabletop games. The former I’ve been playing since I can remember, the latter as soon as I heard someone was GMing in my vicinity (and, for better or worse, I’d spent inordinate amounts of time reading up on them before then). These days I both run and take part in multiple tabletops and, to my shame, may have even LARPed a little bit. Video game wise I primarily play stuff on my now somewhat middle-aged gaming PC (her name is Kitty, Lenny being my stability challenged laptop), and as such can usually be found lurking on Steam, League of Legends and other such platforms at most hours of the day or night. If I had to pick a favourite console it’d probably be the PS2 (when I can actually afford to get myself a console of a more recent gen I’ll let you know if this changes… but it’s still an amazing machine).

I’ve had articles published about gender and gaming at Geek Feminism and the Border House (which are ostensibly what led to me getting interviewed on an episode of The Third Chair that in turn led to me being here), as well as a fair few others scattered about the net (and as you’ll hopefully see when I get round to uploading more stuff yes, my interests do go beyond gender in gaming).

So… yeah; that’s pretty much me in a nutshell. Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoy whatever inane ramblings I turn out here in the future!

An (allegedly) accurate depiction of me in my natural habitat by my bro Aaron (aka Kisagari). Make of it what you will...
