Ask LadySnip3r Vol. 2

What are some good websites that I could use to find geeky presents for my girlfriend?

I would recommend a few different places. You should probably check out the merch stores of her favorite video game, comic book, etc. You can do this by simply googling the company (Ex: BioWare) and following the links to their store. I bought my fiancee all 4 of the Mass Effect 2 figures for his birthday. I would also recommend check out etsy. It’s sort of like a craft eBay. There’s a geeky category where you can find anything from Portal friendship necklaces to Nintendo phone cases. Lastly, I would actually check out Hot Topic. I know it’s not the most glamorous store, but they’ve got some sweet video game and nerdy shirts, jewelry, and accessories.

I heard that there was a Mass Effect movie being announced at ComiCon. I am a HUGE Mass Effect fan and I would really like to get pumped and check this out.  However, video game movies have (at least in the past) been, well, bad.  Do you think this is legitimate and enough to get excited for?  I don’t want my favorite series ruined!

This is a tough one. Here’s what I know so far about it:

- Producers: Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni (Legendary Pictures - Responsible for The Dark Knight and Spiderman) and Avi Arad and Ari Arad (Formerly of Marvel Studios).

- Executive Producers: Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk (BioWare co-founders) and Casey Hudson

- IMDB says it will be released in 2012, but because it is in development I’m going to put my money that it won’t be out until 2013 at the earliest.

- No director or actors announced yet, probably will do that at their comic-con panel.

These names seem to have great credentials in the nerd world and I think that the movie will be fine in their hands. I’m intrigued to see how they approach the character of Sheppard, because players are able to customize their own commander. Will they try to copy the default Shep? Will they use a female Sheppard? Will he/she be paragon or renegade? I also think that they will show some footage of CG scenes at the comic-con panel, so stay tuned for that. All in all, I feel like Mass Effect has such a tightly woven story in such a beautiful environment, that they can’t possibly screw it up. I’m going to continue to remain optimistic about it and I think you should too!
